Standing on the hillside behind the church, Chen Cheng-po sees the landscape of the small town as a kind of harmonious contrast—the limpid jade green of the sky and the river to the deep red fermented among the roof tiles, brick walls, tree trunk, and sloop. The humid air peculiar to Tamsui is rising in the picturesque scene, and the rough lines of the scenery at the riverside seem to be faintly stirring. However, the distant mountain and water remain quiet and still; the slow boat on the river casts a tranquil reflection. The slight drag of the branches hints at a soft breeze, dissolve the contrast between red and green, as well as the conflict between movement and stillness, and blend into a distinctive aesthetic perception.
