The original Tainan District Court was completed in 1914 and was designed by the famous architect Matsunosuke Moriyama. It was located on Ma Bing Ying Street in the early Japanese era, and was renamed Nan Meng Ding Section 2 (present-day 1 Section Fuqian Road) after the urban renewal. It is located next to the Fuan Keng Stream and looks across the street from the Monumental Shrine of Prince Kitashirakawa and the Tainan Jinja area, making it one of Taiwan’s historical masterpieces. After the war, the tower was demolished due to structural problems caused by earthquakes. It was declared a national heritage site in 1991, and opened to the public in 2016 after renovation.
