Landscape Sketch (116)-SB18: 34
1934, pen on paper, 12.5 × 18.5 cm, private collection

Located in the distance is a house with an extraordinary style; the arches, roof, and chimneys, and the adjoining building at its rear—all these details are clues that lead us to the existence of the house in the old photographs. The timbered house in between two paths is a residence of another local celebrity. Is he also one of Chen Cheng-po’s friends in Tamsui?
Two oddly shaped buildings tell two stories in radically different veins. Through the moving and turning of the pen and ink lines, you may well perceive the complex layers of local history in Tamsui.
