The former residence of Dr. Thomas Barclay is an early building inside the campus of Tainan Theological College and Seminary, completed between 1875 and 1879. In 1880, Tainan Theological College and Seminary began its classes in this building, and later it served as the residence of Reverend Barclay until his death on October 5th 1935, making it an important building witnessing the history of the Presbyterian Church in Taiwan. In 1940, Tainan Theological College and Seminary was closed due to the imminent war between Japan and the Anglo-American alliance. During the closure, the school was used as a dormitory for the Chang Jung Girls’ School. After the war, it had been converted into the dean’s dormitory and the Taiwan Church History Library but was later demolished due to lack of maintenance.
