As the age-old battlefield is rid of the smoke of gunpowder, tranquility reigns over the ruinous site. The Hobe Fort (or the Tamsui Old Gun Emplacement Monument) is a desolate scene of debris; the thunder of guns from the French and Japanese forces has quieted down for several decades. An explosion had gone off behind the wall, and the ruins of the collapsed fortress still existed in Chen Cheng-po’s time. The sightline crosses over the fortress wall to meet the rooftop of the house located on the nearby golf course, and there are birds flying in the clear blue sky. In the farthest view, two mountains have witnessed the historical transitions. There have been constant changes in the world whereas the mountains remain verdant.
