On the banks of the shallow water, women squatted low and scrubbed their clothing vigorously, reflecting their hard-working figures on the mirror-like surface of the river. The village news and family trivialities were exchanged in this small corner while they were washing side by side. Beside them, children who had followed their mothers to the laundry were about to step into the water and play freely.
The scene of doing laundry at the waterfront is an affectionate memory of Taiwan’s homeland. Looking at this painting, one seems to be able to hear the splashing of water and the sound of laughter on the shore.
