Tainan Theological College and Seminary originated from the “Capital College” founded in 1877 by Rev. Thomas Barclay, a Scottish missionary of the Presbyterian Church. In 1901, a new seminary building was built on a plot of land purchased next to Sin-Lou Hospital in the East Gate of Tainan City, and in February 1903, the main building was completed. The main building of the seminary is a Gothic-style church with a spire and pointed arched windows in Western expression matched with Taiwan’s local red tile roof (converted to concrete tiles after the war). Its appearance is culturally integrated and simple, with picturesque views. After the war, the building has been expanded and still exists today.
